On its second Friday, Vicky Kaushal’s Uri: The Surgical Strike outpowered Salman Khan’s Sultan – here’s how Entertainment Updated Jan 21, 2019 | 09:09 IST | Amman Khurana Uri: The Surgical Strike, that stars Vicky Kaushal as the main protagonist, outpowered the 2016 Salman Khan-starrer Sultan on its second Friday at the box-office. Find out how. Box-office: How Uri: The Surgical Strike outpowered Sultan Box-office: How Uri: The Surgical Strike outpowered Sultan Uri: The Surgical Strike, that stars Vicky Kaushal as the main protagonist, is doing stupendously well at the box-office. The film, in its nine-day run in cinemas, has amassed over Rs 91 crore and in all likelihood, it will officially become a part of the coveted Rs 100 crore-club today on Monday. It will be the first box-office century for Vicky as a lead star. His previous films Raazi and Sanju, both of which were headlined by Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor respectively, are also a part of the club. On its second Friday, Uri: The Surgical Strike earned a handsome Rs 7.66 crore to feature among the list of Hindi films that made significant money on their second Fridays. And you would be surprised to know that with regard to the second-Friday earnings, the film has left behind the 2016 Salman Khan-starrer Sultan (Rs 7.43 crore). The reason why Sultan – a film that went on to breach the Rs 300 crore-mark – would have registered low collection on its second Friday is because it released on a Wednesday (July 6, 2016) and its second Friday was actually its Day 10 at the box-office. By this point in time, a Salman Khan-starrer is usually done with fetching 80 per cent of its lifetime collection and the earnings in the subsequent days are usually small. Yet, what Vicky’s film has achieved is absolutely phenomenal. (Uri box office collection Day 9: Vicky Kaushal’s film nears Rs 100 crore, total Rs 91.84 crore) Uri: The Surgical Strike, also featuring Paresh Rawal, Yami Gautam, Rajit Kapur, Mohit Raina and Kirti Kulhari in important roles, opened to mixed reviews from movie critics upon its release on January 11. The film is written and directed by debutant Aditya Dhar.
